Worker passes rebar through opening in foundation

It’s the end of April and beginning to get warm outside. I climb down through the hole in the wall and into the cool basement. At first it seems dark, but a string of lights shine strong on certain areas where guys are working. Other areas remain tucked away in the shadows.

In This Blog

In this blog we’re going to look at the role as it develops as a journalist and marketing agent for Gold’s Concrete. I film, take pictures and document the steps on interesting jobs such as the one we’re looking at today.

Down in the Basement

You can see the tiny particles of dust floating in the air within the rays of light, and you can hear the clanking metal of shovels from somewhere… I climb up a ladder and change the data cards and batteries on our time lapse cameras. This data will be used later for documenting the basement conversion.

Worker digging on crawl space conversion

Throughout the week I watch and I chime in on conversations, meetings and phone calls to gather the information I need on this project. At the end of the week I put it all together and create an educational documentary series for Gold’s Concrete.

Documenting the Journey

I don’t have the budget to hire a hot model with a great voice to come in and narrate the project, so I put on my game face and give it my best shot.I set the tripod up and adjust the lighting for a ridiculously long time to try and make myself not so hideous in front of the camera.

I do twenty recordings before I get frustrated and settle on one. I have sales calls to make and they’re not getting made today because I’m fussing with this. I’m still not quite sure how to cram all of this work into one manageable schedule, but I’m figuring it out.

Looking at structural design plans

At the end of the day I film and produce content to promote the company, create brand awareness and generate leads. I show up at the job sites throughout the day, put on my work boots and climb down in the trenches to film. There is usually dirt on my camera, and maybe some mud splattered on the lens.

Hard Work and Dedication

The guys in the field work long, grueling hours with shovels and pick axes in a dark, dingy basement. Gold works late on estimates, meets with other businesses and coordinates projects with his Operations Manager. I don’t think anyone in this humble business has ever had the luxury of sitting back with a fat salary and little responsibility.

I guess what I’m trying to say here is, this is a blog for those of us that have to get up and go to work every day. If that’s you, subscribe to this newsletter now and get weekly updates on concrete forming and finishing techniques, tool reviews, and personal development.

We received this really simple and, I don’t want to say cheap, so we’ll just say affordable microphone in the mail yesterday. You can see our full review by clicking on the image below. What do you think? If you think it’s a good deal and sounds okay, you can purchase it at the best price by clicking here.
