I was at the office one morning in mid August when I received a phone call from a young lady in Westminster, Colorado inquiring about the cost of a driveway repair. In the driveway there was cracking and uneven settling throughout that resulted in several trip hazards that both she and her husband had fallen over on more than one occasion. I agreed to swing by and take a closer look at the damage so that we could provide them with a formal estimate on the cost of repair.
The home was nestled in a beautiful neighborhood near Hidden Lake where I pulled up to meet with one of the homeowners and take some measurements. There was approximately 900 square feet of concrete including the front porch, walkway and driveway that they were considering to be fully replaced. In the middle of the driveway was the majority of damage over which the homeowners were concerned. More cracking and settling extended to all areas, but it could be seen at a glance where the actual trip hazards were.

After bringing pictures and measurements back to the office and discussing this project with the company owner, Gold, we offered a full replacement at $16,000. This would include removal of the old driveway, walkway and porch, regrading, and placement of proper reinforcement to prevent future cracking or uneven settling, within reason.
We offered an alternative approach if the cost of full replacement did not fit within the homeowner’s budget, and that was to tear out and replace only the section of driveway that was causing immediate concern. The size of that area alone was approximately 260 square feet, and we could do that for our minimum of $3,600.
I followed up with the homeowners after giving them a few days to consider our offer, and the gentleman of the house said that they would prefer to proceed with a full replacement as opposed to a partial repair. “But is that price the best you can do?” he asked.

It was a legitimate question and I appreciated the homeowner’s willingness to negotiate with us. I presented his question to our company owner and after some deliberation I was able to bring our asking price down to $15,500. At this point an agreement was reached and the project was scheduled to commence the following week.
I met with our demo crew on site one afternoon at first availability and outlined the scope of work. The following day demo and removal of the old driveway was complete, and form setters then moved in to set new forms in the same place as the old driveway. The area was graded and wire mesh reinforcement was placed.

I met with the homeowners again to ensure the project was going according to plan and communicate any concerns. I checked with the crew and verified that everything was ready to pour the following day. After a total of approximately three days the front porch, walkway and driveway were completely replaced and good as new. The homeowners were satisfied and agreed to meet one last time for me to take some pictures of the new driveway.

“I just wanted to say thank you for the beautiful job that was done with my driveway. It is easy to see that your people know what they are doing.” -J. Homeowner
